About SECNA.

Working towards a just, inclusive, and sustainable society.

We exist to build a thriving social enterprise sector in NSW and the ACT.

Formed in 2020 from the passion and determination of our founding members to build community, represent and advocate for the social enterprise sector.

We operate as an optimistic, energetic, and entrepreneurial organisation grounded in collaboration and shared purpose. We are open and responsive to the needs of the social enterprise sector, working closely with our members to understand challenges, identify opportunities, and take action where it matters most.

Our approach is practical and people-led — building relationships, fostering collaboration, and enabling conditions for social enterprises to grow, connect, and thrive.

What we do.

  • Connect

Social enterprises to each other through community-building, mentoring, peer learning, events, and shared resources — strengthening the ecosystem and helping members grow together.

  • Champion

Social enterprise and social procurement across business, government, and public forums by raising awareness, demonstrating value, and promoting ethical and inclusive purchasing practices.

  • Advocate

For investment, policy change, and enable conditions that support the growth and success of social enterprises in NSW and the ACT, working closely with government and other peak bodies to influence lasting change.

Businesses are great tools for getting things done but the measure of success is not how much money one organisation or person can keep for themselves, but how much they can do for the world.

PEAK BODIES

Several State-based councils and networks exist to support the 12,000+ social enterprises operating across Australia.

These peak bodies provide Australian social enterprises with the mechanisms needed to thrive, from legal, to financial and business strategies. Together we connect, engage and act as a powerful voice to create a more diverse and inclusive economy, putting people and planet first.

LOOKING AHEAD

Enabling infrastructure for social enterprises.

Social enterprises are delivering place-based solutions to some of our biggest social, environmental and cultural challenges.

To grow their impact, they need the right enabling conditions — from access to markets and capital, to strong networks and opportunities to build capability. SECNA is working with social enterprises across NSW and the ACT, alongside local, state and territory governments, to strengthen the infrastructure that allows social enterprises to start, grow and thrive.

Access to markets
Supporting policies and procurement practices that open up new market opportunities for social enterprises and embed social value into everyday purchasing decisions.

Access to capital
Advocating for funding and investment models that help social enterprises start, scale and sustain their impact, including grants, loans and blended finance.

Networks and support
Strengthening the ecosystem by connecting entrepreneurs, supporters, investors and policymakers to share knowledge, collaborate and build momentum.

Learning and development
Creating opportunities for social entrepreneurs to build capability through mentoring, peer learning and practical development programs.
